Separation Agreements

If you and your former partner have separated and have come to an agreement about your affairs, you can enter into a separation agreement, which is in essence a contract between you setting out the terms which you have agreed.

Some people enter into separation agreements if they do not want to divorce, or if they have not been married.

A separation agreement can set out all of the terms that have been agreed between you, including financial arrangements and/or arrangements for children.

Separation agreements do not have the same legal status as a court order but, if court proceedings take place later on, a separation agreement may be taken into account by the court.
